URAC has secured more than 10 organizations as beta-test sites for its accreditation standards for pharmacy benefit managers. The beta-test phase marks the largest group the organization has ever fielded for testing the new standards. Final standards for the commercially insured market are expected to be approved and issued this summer, but there are also indications that purchasers will expect industry leaders to step up immediately and seek the new accreditation status, according to URAC. Employers are already circulating RFIs for next year that ask PBM organizations whether they will be seeking URAC PBM accreditation. "This accreditation is greatly anticipated because of the need for all parties to better understand the practices of pharmacy benefit management organizations and to clearly recognize quality," said John DuMoulin, URAC VP of government relations and product development.
