Abbott announced FDA approval of a 100-mg tablet formulation of its antiretroviral medication Norvir (ritonavir), which is used in combination with other antiretroviral medications to treat HIV-1 infection. The new Norvir tablets can be stored at room temperature (847-937-6100)

Bayer Healthcare introduces A1CNow Selfcheck [1], an A1C meter for at-home testing that produces results in 5 minutes and enables patients to watch their A1C levels between doctor visits. The product is not intended to replace provider-administered A1C tests or routine blood-glucose testing. (

Mission Pharmacal introduced the Urocit-K 15 mEq (potassium citrate) Extended-release tablet. The 1,620-mg formulation uses a maximum-strength alkalinizing agent to help prevent recurrence of kidney stones in patients. (

Novo Nordisk has announced FDA approval of Victoza (liraglutide [rDNA origin] injection), the first once-daily human glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analog for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in some adults. It is intended for use with diet and exercise, in combination with certain other diabetes medications. The product carries a black-box cancer warning. (

New generic

Amneal Pharmaceuticals has received FDA approval for Tramadol/APAP [2], a combination in tablet form of 37.5-mg tramadol and 325-mg acetaminophen (the therapeutic equivalent of Ortho-McNeil Janssen's Ultracet). The centrally acting analgesic is indicated for the short-term management of moderately severe acute pain. It is designated a controlled substance in some states. (


Merz Pharmaceuticals has expanded its Mederma product line with Mederma Stretch Marks Therapy (Cepalin, hyaluronic acid, centella asiatica leaf extract) for the improvement of the appearance of stretch marks. It is available in a 5.29 oz tube. (

The Next Dimension Antimicrobial Handwash Lotion is an alcohol-free alternative germ fighter that won't dry the skin. It is safe for use by children, moisturizes skin, and may be used on cuts and scrapes. It kills most germs and is nontoxic and hypoallergenic. (
