Medication therapy management deals heat up

Rollouts expected at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores' conference in San Diego this month.

There's a lot of news on the medication therapy management front. Outcomes Pharmaceutical Health Care announced that it will roll out an MTM report card for chain pharmacies. This product is timed to launch at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores' pharmacy and technology conference in San Diego this month. How will chain pharmacies be assessed? Criteria include achievement of best-in-class status by individual pharmacies, drug therapy problem identification and resolution, cost avoidance, and others.

Meanwhile Mirixa Corp. has lined up an MTM deal with Ramsell Pharmacy Solutions. Pharmacies in Mirixa's network will provide MTM services to AIDS patients enrolled in the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) and in Medicaid. Ramsell, based in Oakland, Calif., claims to be a fully transparent pharmacy benefit manager that administers ADAP and other programs.

Finally, Genoa Healthcare, which provides specialty pharmacy services to mental health centers across the country, said it has selected Medication Management Systems' Assurance Pharmaceutical Care System as the technology to provide MTM to its clients. Genoa Healthcare's pharmacists will use the MMS Assurance System to associate all drug therapies with a patient's medical conditions, identify and resolve drug therapy problems, create care plans, and document all activities in an electronic record.
