CVS has reported that the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission has started an informal inquiry into how it accounted for a barter transaction in 2000 that involved stuffed animals. The company's audit committee has determined that accounting for the 2000 transaction was incorrect, CVS said in a filing with the SEC.

CVS announced that it will take part in National Patient Safety Awareness Week, which takes place this year from March 5-11. The company will broadcast prescription safety tips for customers through its in-store radio network during the week of the campaign.

Charfoos & Christensen has filed a lawsuit against Walgreens on behalf of Michael Wells in U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan. Attorney Douglas Peters of Charfoos & Chistensen told Drug Topics that Wells' surgeon prescribed the antibiotic Duricef (cefadroxil/cefadroxil hemihydrate, Warner Chilcott) to prevent the development of postsurgical wound infection.

Walgreens Home Care has agreed to acquire Canadian Valley Medical Solutions. Based in Oklahoma City, CV Medical Solutions is an accredited provider of home infusion therapy, respiratory services including home oxygen, customized mobility and seating products, and home medical equipment.

Bottles of fruit juice that appeared to be tampered with were found at a CVS store near where dozens of churchgoers in Connecticut recently fell ill. The bottles contained several different brands and types of juice and were found during an inventory check, according to police.
