State and federal legislation toughens rules for Internet pharmacies

Congress is considering a bill that toughens the controlled substance distribution standards that online pharmacies must meet, while Indiana passes a law to combat illegitimate Internet pharmacies.

There?s legislation on both the state and federal levels to make it harder for Internet pharmacies to sell controlled substances without the proper controls in place. On the federal level, the Senate has just passed Senate Bill 302, which requires nonresident pharmacies utilizing the Internet to obtain Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites (VIPPS) accreditation from the
