Scripted for Her: Pharmacist Management of Preeclampsia
In this episode, Natalie DiPietro Mager, PharmD, PhD, MPH, chats with Laney Poye, the director of marketing and communications at the Preeclampsia Foundation.
In episode 10 of Scripted for Her, host Natalie DiPietro Mager, PharmD, PhD, MPH, is joined by Laney Poye, director of marketing and communications at the Preeclampsia Foundation, to discuss the pharmacist’s management of preeclampsia.
“Pharmacists play such an important role because there's a pharmacy on pretty much every corner in even smaller communities,” said Poye. “[They should] make sure that patients monitor their blood pressure and know their numbers in between their appointments, especially if they're having to travel far in order to get there.”
According to Poye’s organization, preeclampsia is a dangerous condition that impacts women and children on an annual basis. Known as a life-threatening hypertensive disorder, preeclampsia affects patients only during the pregnancy and postpartum periods.1
Gathering during February, also known as American Heart Month, Poye and Mager break down the importance of addressing preeclampsia and how pharmacists can step up to help patients in this space. From their accessibility being an asset, to their knowledge being an authority on the condition, pharmacists have increased opportunities to assist patients with preeclampsia if they are not already working in this space within their communities.
