Introducing Scripted for Her, a new podcast offering from Drug Topics®. Hosted by Natalie DiPietro Mager, PharmD, PhD, professor of pharmacy practice at Ohio Northern University, the podcast aims to help pharmacists provide comprehensive and continuity of care for patients. Each episode will discuss a key topic in the women’s and maternal health spaces, giving pharmacists actionable advice that can improve patient outcomes.
In this episode, Natalie sits down with Jasmine Cutler, PharmD, CPh, assistant professor of pharmacy practice at University of South Florida’s Taneja College of Pharmacy. During the episode, Natalie and Jasmine discuss important considerations that pharmacists must keep in mind when counseling patients on what contraceptive methods might be the best option for them.
According to data from KFF, 90% of females between 18 and 64 years of age said they have used contraception at some point in their reproductive years. Of those, 76% said they have used more than 1 method. However, only 30% said they received all the information they needed before choosing their birth control method, highlighting the critical need for more patient counseling.1
Listen on to hear Natalie and Jasmine discuss how to make sure patients have the best option for them, strategies for counseling patients, the importance of following up with patients, how to effectively deal with side effects, how to address misconceptions, and much more.
