A new report released by PhRMA said there are 219 medicines currently in clinical trials or under review by the FDA for use in children. According to the report, there are 39 drugs for cancer in development, 26 for genetic disorders, 16 for neurologic disorders, and 14 for respiratory conditions. In addition to creating new drugs, manufacturers are also performing studies to determine the safe and effective dosages in children for existing medications. PhRMA stated that the "Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act," currently up for reauthorization this year, has led to new safety, efficacy, dosage, and risk information in the labeling of more than 120 medicines.
