In part 3 of our interview with Vin Gupta, MD, he discusses pharmacists’ role in remote patient care amid a growing technological infrastructure.
A well-established infrastructure of patient data is necessary in order for pharmacists to exhibit their clinical expertise in remote patient care. Like many other providers, pharmacists must adapt to new devices and technologies becoming commonplace in health care if they wish to stand out as remote care providers among their peers.
At the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) 2025 Annual Conference, held May 5 to May 7 in Scottsdale, Arizona, Drug Topics caught up with Vin Gupta, MD, former Chief Medical Officer at Amazon Pharmacy and renowned US medical analyst. After his presentation on the future of health care, Gupta joined us to discuss pharmacists’ role within remote patient care.
“Remote patient care can mean so many different things based on the use case,” he said. As health care becomes more technological, and as researchers and industry experts continue to collect more data, digital patient journeys may become the norm inside and outside of pharmacy. And as pharmacists’ roles continue to expand within health care, they too will be reliant on the infrastructure set in place in order to reach a maximal amount of their patient populations.
Stay tuned for our full-length conversation with Gupta as he dives deep into the future of health care and how connectivity within pharmacy is a necessary tool to drive further improved patient outcomes.
