Novo Nordisk has launched the NovoTwist needle for use with several of its prefilled insulin pens. Twisting the needle during attachment produces an audible and tactile click. NovoTwist is available in a 32 gauge tip (5 mm) and 30 gauge tip (8 mm). ( 800-727-6500)

FDA has approved Genentech's Rituxan (rituximab) for use with corticoids to treat Wegener's granulomatosis and microscopic polyangiitis, 2 rare disorders that cause vasculitis. (

FDA has approved Boehringer Ingelheim's Viramune XR (nevirapine) extended-release tablets, a once-daily 400-mg pill for use with other antiretroviral agents to treat HIV-1 infection in adults. ( 800-548-6257)

FDA has approved Centocor Ortho Biotech's Zytiga (abiraterone acetate) for use with prednisone to treat patients with late-stage (metastatic) castration-resistant prostate cancer who have previously received docetaxel (chemotherapy). (

FDA has approved Abbott's AndroGel (testosterone gel) 1.62%, a clear, odorless gel formulation shown to restore testosterone levels in hypogonadal men. Compared to AndroGel 1%, starting dose is half the volume of gel. (
