The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) is accepting nominations for top pharmacy awards that will be presented during its Annual Convention and Trade Expo in Nashville, Tenn., Oct. 8 to Oct. 12.
NCPA is asking for nominations of owners, managers, or staff pharmacists of independent pharmacies for the Willard B. Simmons Independent Pharmacist of the Year Award and the NCPA Prescription Drug Safety Award.
“With these awards, NCPA is proud to recognize the work of our members and the invaluable contributions they make every day to our healthcare system,” said Robert Greenwood, RPh, president of NCPA and a pharmacy owner.
The Willard B. Simmons Independent Pharmacist of the Year Award bears the name of the long-standing NCPA Foundation board member and retired NCPA executive secretary, “who exemplified outstanding leadership and commitment to independent pharmacy,” according to NCPA. Last year, NCPA awarded William Osborn, RPh, of Osborn Drugs in Miami, Okla., the Willard B. Simmons Independent Pharmacist of the Year Award.
The NCPA Prescription Drug Safety Award recognizes a pharmacist who has served as an outreach resource to his or her community, providing education about the correct use of prescription drugs and the hazards of improper use. Last year, Robert Bowles, Jr., RPh, owner of Big C. Pharmacy in Thomaston, Ga., received the award, which was sponsored by Purdue Pharma, L.P.
