Message to new APhA leader: This is what we want you to do

As John Gans steps down from his role with the American Pharmacists Association, all eyes are on successor's role.

With John Gans stepping down from the helm of the American Pharmacists Association, what would pharmacists like his successor to do? That was Drug Topics' Instant Poll posted online for the month of June. The No. 1 answer, given by 22% of respondents, was they would like the new APhA leader to be a strong and vocal advocate for pharmacy. After that, in descending order, were these answers:

  • fight for better working conditions for pharmacists (20%),
  • unify the profession (19%),
  • secure pharmacists' place as an integral part of the healthcare team (15%),
  • help obtain adequate reimbursement for pharmacy (15%),
  • and inspire pharmacists to expand from dispensing to medication therapy management (10%). The poll drew a total of 171 responses.
