Medtronic recalling devices coated with heparin

Article

Medical devices featuring the Carmeda BioActive surface from Medtronic are being recalled because they are made with the contaminated heparin made in China.

First heparin products were recalled. Now devices coated with heparin are on the recall list. Medtronic is initiating a voluntary recall of disposable devices used during cardiopulmonary bypass that feature the Carmeda BioActive surface. Devices covered include pumps, cannulae, tubing packs, blood oxygenators, and reservoirs. Limited lots of Carmeda-coated products were made with the contaminated heparin produced in China. The Minneapolis firm stressed that it has received no adverse reports associated with these products; it is simply recalling them as a precaution.
