Insurer fosters e-prescribing

Independence Blue Cross will provide electronic prescribing tools to physicians in southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey to reduce prescribing errors and pharmacy costs. The 500 physicians in the $1 million pilot study will receive handheld devices to check patient drug histories and Rx plan formularies, as well as to access a drug information database.
