Hy-Vee buys Amber Pharmacy to expand specialty Rx business

Hy-Vee has announced it is expanding its specialty pharmacy business with the purchase of Amber Pharmacy, which has locations in Omaha, Chicago, Dallas, and Philadelphia. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hy-Vee has announced it is expanding its specialty pharmacy business with the purchase of Amber Pharmacy, which has locations in Omaha, Chicago, Dallas, and Philadelphia. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Amber Pharmacy will maintain its own name, operations, locations, and employees. Amber Pharmacy has 130 employees and reported $155 million in revenue in 2012.

“Amber Pharmacy’s talented team, innovative practices and commitment to customer service will allow us to respond to that growth while meeting and exceeding our customer needs,” said Randy Edeker, Hy-Vee’s chairman, CEO, and president.

Hy-Vee is expanding some of its pharmacies and is targeting new markets to open additional ones. It has also partnered with other healthcare providers to create in-store clinics.

Based in Des Moines, Hy-Vee is an employee-owned grocer that operates 235 stores in eight states.
