Frustrated with the popular dehydration products available, pharmacists Sam and Jamie Lee began searching for alternatives after their 18-month-old son became sick and was in need of rehydration.

They searched the Internet for solutions. There, they found a white paper on dehydration treatments from the World Health Organization. Sam, who works for Sanofi-Aventis, and Jamie, who works for Humana Inc., then decided to start their own company (Louisville-based Six Sigma Laboratories).

7 best practices for pharmacists

The company’s first product, NormaLyte, is now available. It treats people suffering from dehydration related to exercise, illness, hangovers, or other conditions.

According to an article in Louisville Business First, the product is available at a few Louisville-area pharmacies. However, the Lees are trying to strike deals with big-box pharmacies and Amazon.com.

NormaLyte is manufactured and packaged in India. FDA classifies it as a medical food, not a drug. The product comes in a pouch and must be mixed with a liter of water.

The Lees are hoping to expand Six Sigma Laboratories. "We're just proud of Louisville," Sam Lee told Louisville Business First. " We're proud to be here."
