Green light given to first Fosamax generics

First generic alendronate sodium tablets approved

The FDA has approved the first generic forms of alendronate sodium, formally only available as brand-name Fosamax (Teva Pharmaceuticals USA will commence manufacture of alendronate sodium tablets in 5-mg, 10-mg, and 40-mg dosages for once-daily administration, and 35-mg and 70-mg strengths for once-weekly use. In addition, Barr Laboratories was granted permission to market the 70-mg once-weekly alendronate tablet.
