CMS to require NPI numbers in January

Beginning in January, CMS will require NPI numbers for Medicare.

After a delay of seven months, CMS will insist upon NPI (National Provider Identification) numbers for Medicare billing beginning in January 2008. The requirement for using NPIs was originally slated to begin in May, but
