CMS proposes eliminating fax exemption
CMS believes that eliminating the exemption will encourage healthcare providers to move as quickly as possible to e-prescribing using the SCRIPT standard.

CMS has proposed a new rule that would eliminate the exemption for computer-generated faxes to its SCRIPT electronic prescription standard. CMS believes that eliminating the exemption will encourage healthcare providers to move as quickly as possible to e-prescribing using the SCRIPT standard. Currently, most computer-generated faxed prescriptions do not meet the standard. The proposed rule would take effect January 2008. Comments on the proposed rule may be submitted to CMS at
