Tim Canning is no longer president of Health Mart, McKesson’s retail pharmacy franchise and Drug Topics' 2011 Chain of the Year. As of June 17, Canning switched hats to become the chief marketing officer and senior vice president at long-term care (LTC) pharmacy chain Omnicare.
In addition to running Omnicare’s marketing operations, Canning will oversee the company’s retail pharmacy operations. He reports directly to Omnicare CEO John Figueroa, who came to the LTC chain from the top job at McKesson U.S. Pharmaceutical in 2010.
“Tim is a world-class executive who has successfully grown a number of healthcare brands through a passionate approach to meeting the customer’s needs and an exceptional marketing aptitude,” Figueroa said in a statement announcing Canning’s move. “He will be a very important member of our executive team as we look to rebrand the company and create a unified message in the marketplace to better leverage our industry-leading platform.”
McKesson offered similar praise in a statement. “Tim has played an important role in advancing the success of McKesson’s retail independent pharmacy customers through his leadership of key solutions and programs such as Health Mart.”
McKesson said a search for Canning’s replacement is under way. The existing executive team will continue to run Health Mart.
