Medicis issues recall of two lots of antibiotic Solodyn.

Azathioprine (Azasan) 75 mg tablets found in a bottle labeled as minocycline HCl (Solodyn) 90 mg extended-release tablets has stimulated a voluntary recall by Medicis. The affected lot numbers of minocycline are B080037 and B080038 (exp: 12/09) and are packaged as 30-count bottles. According to Medicis, taking azathioprine instead of the antibiotic represents a health hazard and safety risk to patients. Solodyn is manufactured by AAIPharma, Inc. under contract to Medicis and the two affected lots were produced during February 2008. Medical information inquiries can be addressed by calling Medicis at 1-800-900-6389.
