The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) summer meeting will take place from June 12 to June 15 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. The meeting will contain a strong medication-safety component.
There will be 14 continuing education hours dedicated to:
- Strategies for tracers and inspections
- The C Suite’s expectations for MSOs
- Improving safety using the TeamSTEPPS model
- “Mistake proofing” with human factors engineering
- Integrating weight-based dosing regimens in pediatrics
- Practical solutions and best practices for safety in anesthesiology/operating room, emergency department, integrated delivery systems, and ambulatory care
The meeting’s medication-safety programming is a response, in part, to the nationwide patient-safety initiative recently announced by Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Donald Berwick. This initiative seeks to reduce preventable medical errors, hospital-acquired infections, and hospital readmission through making more widely available the known strategies for safer care.
