Jenelle Sobotka, PharmD, FAPhA, 2011-2012 president-elect of the American Pharmacists Association, started out at the U.S. Veterans Administration, where she helped improve patient health through medication management.
No wonder, then, that Sobotka, the 2011-2012 president-elect of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), has been promoting pharmacists' involvement in MTM ever since. As associate director of the Iowa Pharmacy Association, Sobotka and IPA developed the Iowa Center for Pharmaceutical Care. "It was a precursor to MTM and some of the patient-focused management programs. We helped develop a training program for community pharmacies in the state and we authored A Practical Guide to Pharmaceutical Care," said Sobotka, who also served since 1998 as professional relations director with Proctor & Gamble.
As president-elect of APhA, Sobotka will continue the association's work in advancing MTM and recognition of pharmacists' role in healthcare, both top APhA priorities.
