
Why It’s Crucial to Address Insulin Resistance During Pregnancy

With its potential to pose significant health risks for both mothers and their newborns, severe insulin resistance warrants increased attention throughout pregnancy.
Likewise, within the “fragmented” coordination of health care in the US, experts like Clipper Young, PharmD, MPH, CDCES, BC-ADM, BCGP, professor at the Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine, believe a multidisciplinary approach to addressing insulin resistance is also necessary.
“By addressing severe insulin resistance during pregnancy, we have an opportunity to potentially break that intergenerational cycle of metabolic conditions and really pave the way, hopefully, for healthier future generations,” Young told Drug Topics.

“The coordinated multidisciplinary strategy is very important,” he continued. “We want to advocate [and] we are advocating for a framework that can address problems at [multiple] levels.”
