In a conversation with Lissette Logan, PharmD, and Danielle Weaver, RPh, they discussed their use of the PRISM platform for providing contraceptive and family-planning services.
Within today’s pharmacy landscape in the US, pharmacists’ ability to provide clinical services is significantly fragmented across the country, whether it be regulations, legislation, issues in provider status, or challenges in patient access. However, as industry experts work to make pharmacists’ daily tasks easier and more efficient, they are now emerging as health care providers known to tackle any patient concern in the area of contraceptive care.
One of the more recent platforms that has emerged within the pharmacy industry is known as PRISM, or the Pharmacist Resource to Implement Services as Modules. Drug Topics recently caught up with one of the driving forces of PRISM and even got to chat with a pharmacy owner who is currently using the platform in their practices on a daily basis.
“[PRISM] is an electronic health record that's designed specifically for pharmacists,” said Lissette Logan, PharmD, COO at OvaryIt and developer of the PRISM platform. “What makes PRISM unique is that it's modular; contraception is our flagship module. Currently, we have other modules that we're building out, and there's more to come after a clinical trial, which will be ending shortly.”
In part 3 of our interview series, we caught back up with Logan to understand how the PRISM platform is changing the game for pharmacists and their patients in the area of contraceptive care. After introducing the platform, Logan then passed it to her pharmacy colleague, Danielle Weaver, RPh, owner of Big Sandy Pharmacy and Wolves Den Pharmacy in rural Montana. Weaver discussed how PRISM has made a significant difference in her pharmacies, not only for providing contraceptive care but for operating her practices in general.
Stay tuned for our full-length conversation with Logan and Weaver, which will be releasing on Over the Counter podcasting channels this coming Thursday afternoon.
