Insurers warned that government delays in processing applications for the Part D benefit will mean some Medicare beneficiaries will show up at pharmacies without proper identification. Some insurers complained that the government has failed to let them know whether applicants are eligible for Part D, but CMS said some insurers have submitted erroneous data. As of Jan. 1, pharmacies will be able to electronically check patient eligibility for 1.5 cents per query (Drug Topics, Nov. 21).
