CMS' National Plan & Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) will be upgraded on Monday, Sept. 18, and will be down from 5:00 A.M. ET through 2:00 P.M. ET. NPPES is the system developed by CMS to create unique National Provider Identifier (NPI) codes for all healthcare providers. Pharmacies can use the system to get a unique code, or to view and update their NPI data. Work on the system will begin Saturday, Sept. 16, but is not expected to interrupt operation.
