NEW INDICATIONS

Merck & Co., Whitehouse Station, N.J., (908) 423-1000, has been granted a new indication for Singulair (montelukast sodium). The oral tablet can now be used to prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in patients aged 15 and older. Singulair was already approved for the prevention and chronic treatment of asthma in adults and pediatric patients 12 months of age and older.

NEW FORMULATIONS

A new formulation of Fosamax Plus D (alendronate sodium/vitamin D3) has been approved for Merck & Co. It is a combination tablet of 70 mg alendronate and 5600 IU of vitamin D3 for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. The formulation already approved is 70 mg/2800 IU.

NEW DOSAGE STRENGTHS

Kadian (morphine sulfate extended-release) Capsules are now available in 10-mg strength. A product of Alpharma Inc., Fort Lee, N.J., (201) 947-7774, Kadian is also available in 20-, 30-, 50-, 60-, 80-, 100-, and 200-mg strengths for the management of moderate to severe chronic pain.
