New FDA newsletter fulfills commitment to IOM

A new quarterly on-line publication from the FDA will provide healthcare professionals with an update on recently approved drugs, postmarketing drug safety reviews, and emerging drug safety issues. The newsletter will fulfill a commitment the FDA made in its response to the Institute of Medicine 2006 report, The Future of Drug Safety—Promoting and Protecting the Health of the Public. According to the FDA, the mission of the newsletter is to enhance communication, raise awareness, and stimulate additional reporting of adverse events.
