The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation received $1.76 million from 120 benefactors at its 12th annual dinner, held in New York City in November. The donations will go toward support for education, research, and charitable activities to help people improve their health and quality of life through an understanding of medication therapy and the importance of medication adherence.
During the dinner, representatives of Convoy of Hope and AmeriCares were recognized for relief efforts made in the wake of the earthquake in Haiti in January. The Foundation donated $50,000 to each organization to assist with providing food, water, medications, and other resources and supplies to Haiti. The Foundation also contributed $50,000 to Doctors Without Borders for its healthcare delivery efforts in the aftermath of the earthquake.
Gen. Stanley McChrystal, former commander of U.S. and international forces in Afghanistan and leader of the Joint Special Operations Command, delivered the keynote address.
Walgreen Co. and Duane Reade Inc. were the premier sponsors of the event.
