Hospira unveils plans to acquire injectable company

Hospital products giant Hospira Inc., based in Lake Forrest, Ill., announced that it will acquire Australia?s Mayne Pharma Limited for $2 billion.

Hospital products giant Hospira Inc., based in Lake Forrest, Ill., announced that it will acquire Australia’s Mayne Pharma Limited for $2 billion. Executives on both sides believe that the Hospira/Mayne combo will be a good fit strategically and establish Hospira as the worldwide leader in generic injectable pharmaceuticals. Mayne Pharma is a market leader in Europe and Australia and has a significant presence in Canada. Hospira expects the alliance to strengthen its global reach. Hospira, the hospital products division of Abbott Laboratories, is a global specialty pharmaceutical and medication delivery company.
