Avodart can now be used in combination with tamsulosin to treat enlarged prostate.
The Food & Drug Administration has granted approval for Avodart (dutasteride, GlaxoSmithKline) to be used in combination with tamsulosin to treat symptomatic enlarged prostate. The agency said the combination of the two medicines can treat enlarged prostate more effectively than either medicine alone. Enlarged prostate affects half of all men over 50 years old and can lead to hospitalization for the inability to urinate or prostate surgery.
