Concordia University in Wisconsin has hired Mike Brown to serve as chairman of the school’s Department of Pharmacy Practice.

A native of Wisconsin, Brown currently serves as an associate professor of pharmacy practice at the University of Minnesota School of Pharmacy. Brown will start his duties at the university in July. “We’re thrilled to have Brown join us as the start date for the School of Pharmacy approaches,” said Dean Arneson, academic dean of Concordia’s School of Pharmacy. Classes at the school of pharmacy are scheduled to begin in September 2010.

The new school also announced the hiring of Doug Meyer, currently assistant director of pharmacy services at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, as director of experiential learning. Meyer’s responsibilities will be to develop and coordinate the extensive clinical sites that will be used for student rotations during their training at the School of Pharmacy.

Meyer will begin in April. Applications from qualified students for the initial class will be accepted Aug. 1, 2009, through March 1, 2010.

Currently, there are 30 students enrolled in the pre-pharmacy program at Concordia and an additional 200 at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Plans include a new pharmacy building to be constructed on Concordia’s campus in Mequon.
