Isis Pharmaceuticals has a new generic name for ISIS 301012, its anticholesterol drug in development. It's mipomersen sodium. The Carlsbad, Calif., firm said the drug targets apolipoprotein B-100, which is the protein that carries certain forms of cholesterol in the bloodstream. Isis hopes to offer mipomersen to patients who are unable to achieve target cholesterol levels with statins alone or who are intolerant of these drugs.
