In episode 2 of Amplifying Technicians, host Taylor Watterson, PharmD, PhD, assistant professor at the University of Illinois Chicago Retzky College of Pharmacy, welcomes Shane Desselle, RPh, PhD, FAPhA, associate dean for Research & Professional Affairs, and the chair of Pharmacy Practice and Social Pharmacy, at Touro University California.

Desselle has close to 200 peer-reviewed research articles published and mainly focuses his research on the emerging roles of pharmacy technicians and the impact of organizational culture and pharmacy in various facets of medication safety.

“[In pharmacy practice,] I did very much recognize that the quality of my day in terms of my own job satisfaction, as well as the quality of care that I provided to patients on a given day, particularly in the community, but also in the hospital setting, basically hinged upon the quality of the technicians that I had with me, especially as a very new pharmacist back then,” said Desselle.

The pharmacy profession is evolving, and pharmacy technicians are stepping into new roles that go far beyond traditional tasks. That’s the driving idea behind Amplifying Technicians, a new podcast dedicated to showcasing the stories, experiences, and expertise of technicians across the country.
