ASHP, in collaboration with the American Society for Parenteral and enteral Nutrition (ASPEN), has launched a Nutritional Support Certificate for pharmacists, physicians, and nurses.

The self-guided online course consists of 11 modules that review best practices for ordering, access, preparation, and administration of nutritional support. The course provides an overview of the potential complications that could result from enteral or parenteral nutrition. According to a statement, the course will also cover malnutrition, nutritional requirements for adults receiving nutrition supports, and monitoring and error reporting.

“Nutrition support is a key area for interdisciplinary collaboration in hospitals and health systems as pharmacists, physicians, and nurses partner to ensure that patients with complex medical and nutritional needs receive appropriate treatment.” said ASHP CEO Paul W. Abramowitz, PharmD, FASHP. “The Nutrition Support Certificate fills a critical education gap and familiarizes healthcare professionals with the core competencies needed to provide fundamental services related to enteral and parenteral nutrition support.”

Upon successful completion of all modules with at least an 80% or higher on a 100-question examination, participants will receive 19.25 hours of CE plus the certification.
