Why we need residency-trained R.Ph.s
During my recent inauguration address as president of ASHP, I called for a paradigm shift in the staffing requirements of our nation's pharmacies. I shared with ASHP members my strong personal belief that all graduates who want to practice in hospitals and health systems should complete a residency. I advised pharmacy managers to begin putting a premium on hiring residency-trained individuals to fill their vacant positions. And I recommended that ASHP triple the number of accredited residencies by the year 2015.
