Premier Inc. announced new capabilities for its pharmacy-specific spend management decision-support tool SpendAdvisor Pharmacy Spend. Using the Premier?s technology solutions, member hospitals and healthcare systems can increase pharmacy savings and rebates to benefit patients in communities they serve. Beginning on April 30, participating members have been able to more effectively manage the performance programs from seven more drug- companies, including ReoPro (abciximab) from Eli Lilly and Integrilin (eptifibatide) from Schering. These added programs represent some of the highest volume Premier contracts. Performance programs are complex marketing programs in Premier contracts designed to provide member incentives in the form of rebates, tier pricing, or a combination of the two, based on factors such as market share. Before SpendAdvisor, members often lacked awareness of their performance and were dependent on the manufacturers to provide the details.
