Pharmacists Becoming Counselors in an Evolving Women’s Health Space
Susan Thomas, RN, joined Drug Topics to discuss current gaps in women’s health and how pharmacists are stepping in to counsel in this space more than ever before.
Despite increased focus toward women’s health over the years, many patients continue to experience debilitating women’s health conditions while the accessibility of necessary services and medications is often lacking.
As these trends have continued, many community pharmacists have stepped up in the women’s health arena and beyond to improve their closest-facing patients’ access to life-saving services.
“Encouraging women to speak about their symptoms is meaningless if the system isn't built to support them at that moment,” Susan Thomas, RN, chief commercial officer at LucyRx, told Drug Topics. “So from the outside, it looks like care exists, but from the pharmacy counter, it often doesn't.”
Thomas met with Drug Topics to discuss her company’s brand-new women’s health platform aiming to improve outcomes and reduce provider burden in pharmacies nationwide. Set to launch in 2026, she joined us to discuss the gaps in women’s health care, how LucyRx is closing those gaps, and how pharmacists can take advantage of this tool in the future.
In part 1 of our interview with Thomas, she addresses the current concerns that continue to affect the women’s health space, from menopause and perimenopause symptoms to a lack of menopause drugs on many formularies. She then explored the pharmacist’s increasingly prominent role in addressing these concerns and providing women’s health care at the pharmacy counter.
Stay tuned for more from our interview with Thomas and the all-new LucyRx Women’s Health Benefit program.
