Tamara McCants, PharmD, president of NPhA, and Tazche Turner, PharmD, national president of SNPhA, discuss what to expect at this year’s meeting.

The National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA) and Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) are hosting their annual conference August 1 to 4 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The meeting, focused on health equity and community service, aims to bring together student pharmacists and professionals to address health care disparities and support underserved communities.

Key highlights from the conference include 2 innovative programs: SNPhA Speaks, which allows students to present their research and work, and a Social Determinants of Health certificate program. The convention will feature over 22 continuing education opportunities and 25 poster presentations. Another major draw is the keynote speaker, Nicole Avant, PharmD, BCACP, CEO and chief consultant at Avant Consulting Group, who will discuss navigating systemic barriers and driving transformative change. The event also features a Community RX Innovation Lab in partnership with Good Neighbor Pharmacy to explore strategies for sustaining community pharmacies.

Attendees can expect intimate social activities, including the Bridging the Gap reception and a President's dessert reception, designed to foster meaningful connections and inspire future health care professionals. First-time attendees are encouraged to be open-minded, network actively, and embrace the unique opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals dedicated to health equity.

Drug Topics® recently sat down with Tamara McCants, PharmD, president of NPhA, and Tazche Turner, PharmD, national president of SNPhA, to discuss why people should attend the conference, unique opportunities attendees can expect, how the conference reflects the mission and values of both organizations, and advice for first-time attendees or those who are thinking about attending.
