New product called better way to obtain diagnostic images

Article

Product may decrease risk of certain medication errors that may be caused by manually filling syringes.

Covidien is launching the Optistar Elite, which injects contrast media-related drugs into a patient's vascular system to aid in obtaining diagnostic images when used with magnetic resonance imaging equipment. The St. Louis firm claims the Elite model is a new and improved version of its LE model, since it offers better performance and ease of use. The Optistar Elite injector offers a Patency Check, meaning healthcare providers can confirm an unobstructed, or patent, fluid pathway to the patient prior to injection of the drugs. The company maintains that Elite, combined with the use of Covidien's Ultraject prefilled syringes for contrast media-related drugs, can help decrease the risk of certain medication errors that may be caused by manually filling syringes.
