NACDS 2010-2011 Chain Pharmacy Industry Profile illustrates pharmacy value

The 13th edition of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) 2010-2011 Chain Pharmacy Industry Profile provides economic impact data, national and state-by-state information, and facts on retail and pharmacy trends.

• 3.6 billion prescriptions are filled annually by community pharmacies, 2.6 billion of them (72%) by chain pharmacies.

• In chain pharmacy, 39,000 locations include 132,000 pharmacist positions, or 118,000 full-time equivalents.

• Chain retail pharmacies and their associated retail stores employ more than 3.1 million employees.

• Nearly all Americans (93%) live within 5 miles of a community retail pharmacy.
