Latebreakers: Improved insulin pen for Humalog debuts

Eli Lilly has announced the launch of a new insulin pen for its Humalog brand of insulins that is smaller, lightweight, and easy to use. Kwikpen is the third new insulin pen the company has debuted in the past 12 months and is available prefilled with either Humalog, Humalog Mix 75/25 (75% insulin lispro protamine suspension, 25% insulin lispro injection [rDNA origin]), or Humalog 50/50 (50% insulin lispro protamine suspension, 50% insulin lispro injection [rDNA origin]). According to the company, the original Humalog brand prefilled pens will still be available. KwikPen is suitable for use with Becton Dickinson's insulin pen needles, which are sold separately. Earlier this year, Lilly launched both the HumaPen Memoir and HumaPen Luxura HD.
