Eight pharmacies chosen as Letairis distributors

Gilead Sciences, a biopharmaceutical firm based in Foster City, Calif., has chosen eight specialty pharmacies to distribute Letairis (ambrisentan), a drug that treats a potentially deadly form of pulmonary high blood pressure. The pharmacies chosen to distribute Letairis include Accredo Health Group, Aetna Specialty Pharmacy, CVS Caremark, CIGNA Tel-Drug, CuraScript, Fairview, PrecisionRx, and Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy. These pharmacies are authorized to file patients' insurance claims for Letairis and ship the drug to them. Letairis is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, a disease marked by high blood pressure in the lung's pulmonary arteries. The disease causes the arteries to narrow and eventually become blocked, which can lead to heart failure if left untreated.
