The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) honored two of their own today at the 2019 Annual American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Midyear Clinical Meeting & Exposition.

David F. Chen, Senior Director of the Section of Pharmacy Practice Leaders and Verna L. Reed, Director of Customer Relations and Materials Management were recognized for their contributions to the association and pharmacy industry at the meeting.

Chen works on a daily basis with pharmacy leaders to identify significant trends and issues that impact the profession, ASHP officials noted in a press release. He played a central role in implementing the ASHP’s newest section, the Section of Specialty Pharmacy Practitioners, launched earlier this year. Since its launch, this section has grown to more than 4,000 primary members. ASHP officials said they plan to expand their leadership into this rapidly growing area in the year ahead.

In her role in Customer Relations, Reed has improved payment card industry compliance and credit card processing, and led the department’s transition to Interactive Voice Response, which ASHP officials explained, will further secure private payment processes for future transactions. She also most recently launched the Customer Experience Improvement Project, which connects customer relations analysts with other ASHP departments to apply new information from customer communications, trends, and data analyses.

“This award recognizes ASHP team members for their dedication, initiative, and passion for our organization and our members,” said ASHP CEO Paul W. Abramowitz, PharmD in ASHP’s release. “David’s and Verna’s contributions to ASHP demonstrate a deep commitment to serving our members, advancing pharmacy practice in hospitals and health systems, and to achieving ASHP’s vision that medication use will be optimal, safe, and effective for all people all of the time. These outstanding individuals exemplify the criteria for this award by continually going above and beyond in support of our mission.”
