A conversation with Harry Travis, BSPharm, President of the Travis Health Group, at Asembia’s AXS25 Summit.

With its ability to provide almost an infinite amount of data points at the click of a button, artificial intelligence (AI) has made its way to the pharmacy profession and it is making pharmacists’ tasks much more streamlined. However, with any new technology that makes an exponential leap toward the public eye, pharmacists must learn how to properly use AI in day-to-day pharmacy practices.

“It’s a combination of the AI tools giving the community pharmacy hints as to what they should do, help them with the patient record, but then also, do it so quickly and efficiently that they have the time to do that,” said Harry Travis, BSPharm, President of the Travis Health Group.

He caught up with Drug Topics at Asembia’s AXS25 Summit, held April 27 to May 1 in Las Vegas, Nevada, to discuss various topics amid AI’s role in pharmacy practice. From pharmacists using AI to patients’ familiarity with the new technology, Travis provided expert insights into just how much, or how well, AI is being used in pharmacy practice today.

“No matter how good these AI agents are, I still believe there is nothing going to replace the value of a face-to-face conversation with an empathetic clinician,” said Travis. “AI should be able to power that much more effectively.”
