Tom Kraus, MHS, JD, is joining the ASHP as the vice president of the Government Relations Office this month.
Kraus earned a bachelor of science in biology from the University of Michigan, a master of health science in health finance and management from Johns Hopkins University and a law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.
Prior to joining ASHP, Kraus most recently served as the deputy staff director of health on the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Labor, Education, and Pensions. During his tenure there, Kraus served under Senators Edward Kennedy and Tom Harkin.
More recently, Kraus worked with governmental agencies and private industry. From 2014 to 2017, Kraus served as the FDA’s chief of staff and associate FDA commissioner for legislation. While there, he was the top advisor to FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, MD.
In industry, Kraus served as a health policy, management, and life sciences senior executive for professional services firm Ernst & Young, management consulting firm McKinsey & Company, healthcare consulting firm Avalere Health, and the Boston Consulting Group,where he served as associate director.
