In an effort to increase the disposal of unused prescription medications, the California Department of Health Care Services’ MAT Expansion Project has received grant funding to provide disposal bins at participating establishments throughout the state.
The program, which has been developed and will be administered in partnership with California Product Stewardship Council, will provide free bins and removal services at applicant sites as well as California Drug Enforcement Agency-approved locations such as California-Licensed pharmacies, hospitals with pharmacies, and law enforcement departments.
Landowners, agencies, and health centers could reportedly benefit from the location promotion and foot traffic that could result from the bin placement, while contributing to a cause that will save taxpayer dollars, protect the environment, and ensure prescription medications are only being consumed by the intended party, according to a press release.
Two webinars will be held to discuss the program in more depth, each requiring respective registration.
